SipsPOS
● For wineries moving off another system

Switching POS? Do the math first.

A percentage of every sale. A club run out of a spreadsheet beside the till. A register that never understood allocations. Or a vendor retiring the product out from under you — WineDirect's platform closes on December 31, 2026.

Whatever you're leaving, start with what it actually costs you.

What are you switching from?

Everything below adapts to your answer — the arithmetic, what carries over, and the honest account of what they do better than us.

WineDirect

Winery DTC platform (retiring)

The platform retires on December 31, 2026, so every winery on it is choosing a replacement this year whether it wanted to or not.

What WineDirect does better than us

  • Years of order and club history in exports we can read directly.
  • Its fulfillment warehouses are a separate business from the retiring software, so a 3PL relationship there does not end with the platform.

What you'd still be solving elsewhere

  • The platform itself is going away — the question is not whether to move, only where.
  • The default path offered is Commerce7, on Commerce7's pricing.
  • No winemaking, vineyard or cost-of-goods coverage.

What carries over

Guided import from WineDirect's own CSV exports — we pre-map the columns and show you a preview before anything saves.

Got a public shop? Paste its address instead — we detect WineDirect sites and read the catalog straight off it, then stage every product for you to edit before anything imports.

Card details never transfer between platforms — nobody can export them, us included. Migrated club members get a one-click re-authorization email to re-add their card, and billing skips them until they do.

What you pay now, and what you'd pay here

Most winery platforms charge a monthly fee plus a percentage of your direct-to-consumer revenue. That percentage is a platform fee charged on top of your card processing — it is not a merchant rate.

SipsPOS charges a flat monthly price and takes no percentage at all. You connect your own Square or Stripe, and card revenue settles straight to you at the rates you negotiated.

Tasting room, wine club and online — everything you sell direct. Wholesale isn't part of either side's fee.

WineDirect never published a public price list, and the platform is ending anyway — put what you pay today in the box and compare that.

Card processing is extra on both sides — nobody's payments are free. The difference is that we don't add a platform fee on top, and you keep your own processor and its rates.

WineDirect doesn't publish a price list, so we don't quote one — the figures above are the ones you entered from your own invoice.

Our prices are the ones on our pricing page — this calculator reads the same catalog billing charges from, so it can't quote you a price we don't charge.

Where we're genuinely different — and where we're not

A comparison that only flatters us isn't worth reading. These rows are about the shape of the products, not anyone's marketing — and the last two are ours to lose.

What matters Your current platform SipsPOS
What it costs The bill grows as you do.
  • Winery DTC platforms: a monthly fee plus a percentage of everything you sell direct — Commerce7 publishes up to 1.5%.
  • General POS and ecommerce vendors: the cut is folded into processing or per-app subscriptions instead.
A flat monthly price. No percentage, so growing costs you nothing extra.
Who holds your card revenue Usually the vendor's own gateway — Commerce7 moves US and Canadian wineries onto theirs at onboarding, and restaurant POS contracts normally lock processing to the vendor for the term. Your own Square or Stripe. Money settles to your account, at your rates. Already on Square? You keep it, terminals and all.
Making the wine Not covered by any of them — you add a separate production system. Vineyard blocks, harvest picks, lots, vessels and bottling in the same system that rings up the sale.
What a bottle cost you No production data, so no true cost of goods. Grape, oak and packaging follow the wine to the bottle and into your margin reports — including what a tasting flight costs to pour.
Liquor-board filing Sales tax, at best by province or state — but no liquor-board remittance reporting. A BC winery's LDB Direct Sales report, built from its own sales and exported ready to upload. US wineries: TTB excise and premises worksheets, plus per-state duty figures.
Bookkeeping Accounting through third-party apps and exports. Balanced journals that sync live into QuickBooks, Xero or Sage, plus payroll-ready time-clock exports.
Ecosystem and scale Theirs is bigger. Whichever one you're on, it has more wineries, more integrations and more people who already know it than we do. Commerce7 alone has thousands, an app marketplace, and most wine-marketing agencies building on it. We're smaller and newer, with no app marketplace and no bench of agencies already building on us.
  • There is a public REST API that reads and writes — scoped keys you issue yourself — covering catalog, customers, club, orders, register sales, inventory, fulfillment and bookings, plus eleven webhook events.
  • It's a paid add-on, not included.
  • There's a sandbox: a test key reaches a separate copy of your winery — invented data — so a partner builds without ever touching your real customers.
  • No hosted checkout link — an order placed through the API is one the partner has already charged for.

If you depend on a specific integration or agency, ask us before you switch.

Cross-border shipping The established DTC platforms have mature US compliance through partners, for shipping within the US. Full DTC within your own country.
  • Canadian wineries, across provinces.
  • US wineries, state-by-state, with permit tracking and annual limits.
  • Across the border itself isn't supported yet — cross-border via licensed partners is on the roadmap.

If it's core to your volume, tell us: it gets built with a winery like you.

Try it before you commit to anything

14 days free, no credit card. Bring your own Square or Stripe, and bring your data — the importers are in the app from day one. If we're the wrong fit for your winery, we'd rather you found that out in a trial than a contract.
